We approach each brief with curiosity and openness. We believe that the delivery of a publicly celebrated project of any scale relies on robust ideas.

Empowering

We see architecture as a social responsibility that can be re-imagined through a generous and open design process. We aspire to strengthen local identities and actively invite people of all ages, cultures, genders and abilities to contribute to the discussion and co-production of our shared future environment. We are advocates for early community engagement with First Nations Peoples and favour co-design with Indigenous collaborators to ensure that Country is tangibly embedded from the outset.

Progressive

We think and do differently, prioritising experimental thinking and continuous growth over relying on conventional methods of practice. We actively pursue complex and challenging projects, as they present a greater opportunity to generate unexpected outcomes and create meaningful change. We see standardised performance metrics and carbon calculation goals as the baseline and conceptualise each project as a unique catalyst for innovation.

Artful

Designing an engaging, inclusive and aesthetic public space can take many forms. Art may be simple, bright, bold. It may possess intricacy that invites closer inspection and discovery. It may be static, or it may move and change in response to its context and use. There may be novel interpretations woven into the fabric of an architectural surface or landscape. There may be ongoing spatial experiences through community participation, and atypical modes such as sounds, plantings, and conversations. We work with Traditional Knowledge Owners, artists, curators, botanists, historians, craftspeople, designers, engineers, poets and placemakers to deliver a holistic cultural activation.

Accessible

We believe that architecture should meet people where they are, a challenge that historically was not considered in practice. We acknowledge the issues of gentrification and displacement and initiate public discussion around these changes as part of our process. We are inquisitive designers that questions how the places and processes we design can assist in reducing the barriers to access in education, housing, public spaces, and services, and contribute to thriving and connected communities. Our concepts embed strategic accessibility solutions into the whole lifecycle of a project, from wayfinding and circulation to inbuilt initiators of cross-cultural and intergenerational exchange.

Enduring

We recognise the complexity of environmental, social, and economic realities of our profession, without downplaying the climate crisis within which we operate. We reuse whatever we can and recycle what we can’t, endeavouring to transform unavoidable waste into valuable resources. Our designs are informed by the latest climate-responsive and predictive technologies, and we work with specialist consultants to stay abreast of advances in both Western science and Indigenous Ecological Knowledge. We are resistant toward the idea of architecture as an object and see endless possibility in approaching the design and construction process as just one stage in the evolving life of a site.
