Each amenity block, featuring a pared-back materials palette of galvanised steel structure, concrete with exposed local aggregates, and raw aluminium, sits against a densely vegetated backdrop, simultaneously providing contrast with, and recessing into, the abutting natural elements.
The sloped roof, open structure and perforated screens draw in daylight, while coloured accents act as a playful nod to the specific location. Through multiple siting options, we worked to ameliorate the existing service connections, prioritising cost-effective construction, practicality and easy upkeep.
Aileen Sage was commissioned for the design of two new public amenities buildings at Bobbin Head, with a subsequent three at Georges River. These projects gave us an opportunity to engage with a quintessential public building typology specific to NSW National Parks. Our design approach has since been adopted as part of the NSW National Park standards, contributing to a consistent and contemporary identity across the state’s public park infrastructure.
