Umi’s work is characterised by a calm intelligence and careful attention to detail and process. Joining Aileen Sage in 2023, her experience ranges from private residential and commercial projects to state significant mixed-use developments and cultural institutions.
She is an alumni of the University of Technology Sydney, where she is also a casual academic, and the Aarhus School of Architecture in Denmark where she completed an exchange semester.
Alongside her work at Aileen Sage she has continued to apply her interest in the cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary potential of architectural practice — as an editor and founder of architecture publication Paradise Journal and through ‘mori’, a collaborative project for architecture culture with Janelle Woo.
She has curated and hosted exhibitions, talks and workshops with architectural practices both local and international. Her work has been exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale and Melbourne Design Week. In 2024 she was shortlisted for the Canadian Centre for Architecture Emerging Curators Residency with Janelle Woo.
