Janelle is an intuitive and creative thinker, with an attentiveness to collaborative processes. She is particularly interested in public and cultural spaces, and the integration of heritage, public art and architecture.
She joined Aileen Sage in 2018 as a student of architecture and returned as a graduate in 2023 as a core member of our design team.
Janelle completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Sydney, graduating with the First Degree Graduate Prize of the Year from the Australian Institute of Architects NSW. She completed her Master of Architecture at the University of Technology Sydney, having spent a portion of her time on exchange at ETH Zurich in the Chair of Architecture and Urban Transformation. She is also a casual academic, having taught design studios, theory and professional practice subjects at tertiary institutions including the University of Sydney, UTS and WSU.
Alongside her work in practice, Janelle is co-editor of Paradise Journal and co-director of mori with Umi Graham, a collaborative project about architecture: its place in the world, its tangents and its culture. It is an open question prompted by the understanding that architecture is a world-building act (political and altogether human). As mori, they have curated exhibitions including Outbuilding with deep garden with Colby Vexler, Baracco+Wright Architects and Rory Gardiner, run a design-build workshop led by BAST with Guillermo Fernández-Abascal, and hosted day workshops with Jing Liu of SO-IL and Dieter Leyssen of 51N4E, all at their small studio in Lewisham, Sydney.
